What to Wear for the Gym
Do you stand in front of your wardrobe at 6am and wonder what you can get away with wearing to the gym? It's something we've all done I think.
The good news is that it can be simpler than you'd think. You don't need a head-to-toe designer gym outfit or the most expensive athletic kit on the shelf. All you need are clothes that are comfy. That let you move and make you feel ready to train your best.
Here's our no-nonsense guide to what to wear for the gym, whether you're a lifting fiend, someone who loves running or your just getting started on your fitness journey.
The Basics (A Must For Everyone)
The first simple rule is that breathable fabrics are your best friend. Cotton is lovely for the sofa, but when training it can hold onto your sweat.
For any workout that gets your heart racing, go for something thats light and moisture-wicking. Our Quick-Dry Gym T-Shirt is a good place to start, and if you want to see more options, have a browse through our Breathable T-Shirts collection.
- Pick the right fit. If its too tight, you'll feel restricted on squats. Too baggy and your top ends up over your head during deadlifts. You want to move freely without anything flapping about.
- Think in layers. Gyms can be freezing when you arrive and boiling halfway through your session, so adding layers let you adapt. That matters even more now the colder months are rolling in.
- Don't forget the extras. A cap or beanie is handy extra for keeping hair out of your face or your head warm on the walk or cycle there. Our Caps & Hats are made for exactly that.
Gym Wear for Men
Let's start with the lads. Most blokes can get by with a simple formula: a good tee, comfortable bottoms and decent trainers. But a few choices make a real difference.
Start with the T-shirt. It's the backbone of your gym wardrobe. For heavy sessions, a Quick-Dry Gym T-Shirt keeps you feeling fresh when things get sweaty. If you like a bit of attitude in your kit, the RAW Power Quick-Dry T-Shirt has a bold look that suits a leg day. Want something with a retro, sporty edge? The Ringer T-Shirt works just as well in the gym as it does down the pub afterwards.
Add a base layer when it's cold. A Long Sleeve Base Layer T-Shirt is brilliant for early mornings, outdoor runs and those gyms where the heating seems permanently off. It sits close to the body, keeps you warm during your warm-up, and you can wear a tee or hoodie over it.
Throw on a hoodie or jacket for the journey. There's nothing like pulling on a gym hoodie after a session so you stay warm while your body cools down. If it's properly chilly or wet out, one of our jackets will see you through the walk to the car.
Finish with a cap or beanie. A Snapback Hat is a casual option for the gym floor and the street, and a Ribbed Knit Beanie is perfect for winter training sessions.

Gym Wear for Women
Now for the ladies. The most important rule is the same as for the men: wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. If you feel good, you'll train better.
Choose tops that move with you. Whether you're doing yoga, spin, weights or a bit of everything, you want a top that stays put and doesn't make you self-conscious. Our Quick-Dry Gym T-Shirt comes in plenty of colours, including pink, sky blue and navy, so you can match your mood as well as your workout.
Don't be afraid of colour and slogans. Gym kit doesn't have to be black from head to toe (although we do love a black set). Fun designs and empowering slogans can give you a little boost when motivation is low, and we've got plenty to choose from in the Women's Collection, which is also produced with a focus on sustainability.
Layer up for warm-ups and cool-downs. A long sleeve base layer is a great shout for cooler mornings, and a cosy hoodie is the ideal post-workout cover-up.
Keep your head warm and your hair out of the way. A Cuffed Beanie is a lifesaver on cold days, while a Trucker Cap adds a sporty finish to any outfit.
Colour-coordinate if that's your thing. Some of us just feel better when everything matches. If that's you, you can shop by colour: Pink, Black, Red, Blue or Grey.
Dressing for the Season
With winter on the way, it's worth rethinking your gym wardrobe. The mornings are darker, the commutes are colder, and nobody wants to start a workout already shivering. Our Winter Gym Wear collection has the layers you need, from beanie hats to jackets and hoodies.
Don't Overthink It (and Don't Overspend)
The best gym outfit is the one that gets you through the door. You don't need a huge budget either. Here are a few ways to keep costs down:
- Grab our Buy 2 T-shirts for £32 deal and build a week of workouts around a couple of favourites.
- Shop by price with Gear Under £15, Under £25 or Under £35.
